Lots of options here:
1. Lately myself and a lot of friends have been having a blast with blackstone griddles. But you're limited, it's a griddle, fried rice and steak sandwiches gets old.
2. You have your high end charcoals like Green Egg and PK. Both are cool but they both take forever to use, same problem as a lowly smokey joe.
3. You really can't beat a gas grill when you need hot flame quickly and have to feed a lot of folks.
Right now my fleet is
-webber gas w/ side burner
-weber smokey joe (2) one at camp, one home
-mini-kamado (idiotic don't bother)
-36" blackstone
-weber go-anywhere charcoal (might give/sell)
-brinkman smoker that i love but havent' used in years
-camp chef two burner outdoor stove (love for frying an gumbo, messes)

I love my pellet smoker but one thing with pellets... the humidity in south Louisiana will make pellets swell up. I try to remove my pellets from the feed tube if I know I am not going to use it for a while... but I forget.. Pulling the auger is easy if it isn't full of swollen pellets, with swollen pellets it is another story!
I am a huge fan of Weber genesis grills for a main grill though.
