Defensive attitude

I'm not here to bash just to see if anyone else is thinking the same as me.
2008 defensive stats: 108.2 rush per game
195.4 pass per game
3 int
1 fumble rec
9 sacks
Other than the turn overs not to bad, but the one thing I think we are missing is attitude. Having people nervous about playing us, hitting people in the mouth. Where has that gone, is it the coaches, talent level I don't know. All I know is we better find it soon.

You are right, the trend has been going on since last year.
BUT last year we won the NC and everyone looked the other way, even though it took luck to get there.
I think that because of the wins, a lot of people and possibly even coaches took the "if it ain't broke, don't fix it" attitude.
where in reality, it may not have been broke,
but it was not working as it should have.
Now that we had such a loss, people are reacting....fans, players and coaches are now forced to look at the problem and address it.
"Winning cures all"
as an old saying goes, even criticism....
so while we were winning...many said to themselves, 'leave it alone'...even though the symptoms were there.
after all from # 1 D to # 32 D.?????
this loss is not the end of the world,
but it should be an urgent eye opener.

Question...
Are the coaches giving the D the chance to do these things of which you speak?

I agree attitude is important and they need to strike fear in the other team.
The one thing the co DC's could learn from the Florida Coaches is to shake things up. Everything the offensive team has said is that Florida showed a whole different look to them on defense. One thing is for sure this defense hasn't been tweaked much since Pelini got here. Even the players say it is exactly the same they have been running.
They need to throw some new looks at people and maybe coach a little bit. I think the team would gain some confidence in these coaches if they saw them add some new things and especially if they worked. Bo's not here these CO Dc's have to put their stamp on the team or go back to being position coaches.
I think we will see a few things changed this week for sure. I hope they work.

Another thing I don't understand is when we're down 30 and make a tackle why get up and jump around like we've just really done something.

Its time to bring in new blood at DC. Hopefully somebody with an aggressive gameplan

I just read this in TD's front page......
=========================================
The defense, long an LSU staple, is another story, according to the NCAA tables. In the SEC, the Tigers have slipped to an uncharacteristic ninth in total defense. The best in the conference in that stat, which is based on yards surrendered per game? South Carolina, LSU's next opponent.
South Carolina is third nationally in that category, but the Gamecocks are slightly behind (the difference is less than a yard per game) in rushing defense.
Perhaps most troubling of all for the Tigers' faithful is that, at the moment, LSU isn't even the best defense in Louisiana, according to the NCAA. The Tigers rank No. 32 in total defense nationally. That puts them three spots behind No. 29 Tulane.

Players are even questioning the defensive scheme.
For recruiting what defensive player wants to come into a system with little or no aggressive style of play and taught poor fundamentals?
Its time for Peveto/Mallory to be shown the door

Mudminnow, no player has questioned the scheme. They have admitted to making mistakes and misreads after every game, and we are now in the middle of the season. This is unacceptable. Reminds me of all the penalties last year, all year long.

Mudminnow You are 100 percent right.Time to let these guys play sgressive, get after someone, and get back to when teams haad a hard time scoring 10 to 15 points

I am no coach, but I have always believed that the best way to protect a young "secondary" and prevent deep passes is to keep the QB on his arse.
Hard to pass downfield when you are on the ground.
but..that's just me.
