Same reason some teams are using analytics to try to win a game. This isn't fantasy football. Analytics don't work.

Dedicating 25% of your salary cap to one player is a horribly inefficient use of resources. The biggest reason New England was so good for so long that no one ever talks about is that Brady never reset the market on QB contracts. He took less so they could keep the roster stocked. I'm surprised other QBs don't do this.
I also believe there's a chance that New England made it up to him by paying him some under the table too, but that's for another thread.
