What do these people steal from the vehicles? I keep nothing of value in my pickup and it's parked in my garage pretty much all the time. I can't imagine keeping anything important in a vehicle that I parked on the side of the street.

Guns, for one.
People even advertise the fact:
It may as well say, "Break into this vehicle and win a free gun!"
You might be surprised at how many posts there are on the Outdoor Board about baws having their "truck guns" stolen out of their vehicles.
