The day you get a leak in the line or the heater itself and have to replace all drywall and carpeting under that space especially if you were out on vacation then you will never put them in the attic again.

That's why you have catch basins under them with pvc pipes draining those out to the exterior of the house. There is always some nightmare scenario I suppose, but I've got all kinds of other water lines running through my attic that could cause the same issue.
