Building the bridge at Bluebonnet would gridlock traffic in all of south Baton Rouge. I realize this is a regional project and not just a Baton Rouge project, but improving traffic in the Baton Rouge area is certainly ONE of the goals of this bridge project. Locating the bridge at Bluebonnet would not improve traffic in Baton Rouge, and instead would make it worse.
Also, the retail/commercial components of the Harveston development that Wampold is building along Bluebonnet will be the crown jewel of Baton Rouge developments, and one of if not the nicest developments in the entire state. Construction on this has already started. Locating the bridge at Bluebonnet would result in on ramps and off ramps being built right through the middle of this portion of the Harveston development, and would result in a freeway going right through the heart of the retail portion of the Harveston town square. In other words, it would completely destroy the entire Harveston development, which would be a huge loss for the city and the state.
