Hatred leads to otherwise normally unconscionable acts of cruelty and evil. That hatred masks itself as "wrath", or a form of comeuppance...

But, nonetheless, one must be a complete sociopath or convinced that their actions are "righteous" to willfully bring that type of pain and suffering to another human being.

During the fall of Germany in WWII, my grandfather said that what the Russians did to the citizen men, women and children of Germany, was comparable to what he saw when he was there for the liberation of the Buchenvald death camp. Now before you jump all over me for saying he said that, he saw the starvation that took months to literally shrivel Jews to death firsthand, and it disgusted him. What he said was similar, was the utter lack of respect for human life by both the Wehrmacht and the Red Army. The Red Army was just more abruptly violent towards the women and children while it often took several months or even years to die at Dachau or Buchenvald or any of the other death camps.

Similar cruelty, similar sociopathic actions, similar disdain towards life that they considered "subhuman".

When you have the capacity to look at a person the same as a termite that needs squashed, you feel no red line is uncrossable.
