Y’all don’t understand the survey
quote:Correct, they are not in the labor force.
Someone calls you and they ask:
1. Are you working?…. No
2. Are you actively looking for a job?…. No
That person is not a part of the labor force.
quote:Incorrect, they are counted in the denominator used to calculate the percentages in the chart.
They are not counted anywhere on the graph in the OP.
quote:Not correct.
An old retired baby boomer isn’t answering yes to either of those questions. Their presence or absence is totally irrelevant to the chart in the OP.

Correct.

Incorrect. The graph gives the percentage of population aged 16+ that is part of the labor force - i.e. either employed or actively looking for employment. Everyone else (including retirees) represent the remaining percentage of population aged 16+ who are not participating in the labor force.

You seem very confident.

Did the Fed export all our jobs, quadruple welfare and bastardize our education system over that time?

I read this chart as men are becoming weaker. Everyone became lazy with Government recent handouts.

Look at that female graph.
Second Wave Feminism was such an absolute crock. It was a ploy by corporate oligarchs to double the labor market supply.
Why pay Dad $100k + benefits to work while Mom stays home and raises the kids when we can force both parents to work for $50k without benefits and double our work output while rigging the system with artificial pressures.
Ladies, enjoy spending 50 hours a week chained to a cubicle to pay for daycare, divorce attorneys and medical comorbidities. At least you got to burn your bra and show solidarity with a bunch of lesbians and cat-owning manhaters.

The OT's position in a nutshell. Nugget of truth in point, yet skewed to meet the need to be angry about something.

and yet, you seem to be the one taking offense to someone else’s opinion.

Lemme guess... You got this in an email or off FB and have never been to the Fed website or taken anything above HS economics class.

He isn't taking offense to anyone's opinion, I don't think. He's putting his own opinion out there that it seems like many in this thread take whatever graph, statistic, etc. and twist it to fit the narrative that things were better when "men were men", whatever that means. It happens in most every thread. Why? Who knows.

this isn’t reddit or twitter, people have a right to their own opinions

I pointed out that a lot of the opinions in here are based on pure emotion, and that these emotional opinions produce more emotions. Further, these opinions disregard the facts that college enrollment has increased substantially since the 50s, and the average age of retirement has decreased substantially since the 50s, both of which impact these participation rates.

Yes, just like he does.
His opinion is that the other opinions are based on a faulty interpretation of the chart. Which they are, because we don't have access in this thread to the underlying data. We have a chart with 3 lines and recessions shaded. It tells us nothing even as to what is happening, much less why it's happening.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but you probably have to go back to like 4000 BC. Egypt was definitely a welfare state

Wrong, wrong, and wrong.
