No chance a guy like Bennett comes here with what’s coming down the pipeline. The next hire will likely be a bridge to get through the sanctions.

73-20 last 5 years in the ACC. A NC and 2 Naismith awards. .732 winning percentage overall at VA. Yeah. The dude sucks.

Nobody gets serious sanctions anymore. The days of 5 years probation ended over a decade ago. At most we’ll get a 1 year post season ban but most likely we’ll pay a fine and maybe have a scholarship penalty.

The athleticism in the SEC would destroy the way his team plays on offense. It isn't a good fit, but yalls ad is a retard so I could see it happen.

As opposed to the non athleticism from the ACC? I understand this year that conference wasn’t great, but let’s not act like when UVA was good that the ACC was much better than the SEC.

Never said he sucked, I said last time we had an opening I would have loved to have. That’s saying he sucks to you?

No. I’m sarcastically saying it because you’re making a misguided case for not wanting a coach with his accomplishments. He’d be a no-brainer if he’s interested.

Would fit his profile. Overpay and hope for the best.

Washington State basketball coach Tony Bennett was one of several coaches who had preliminary talks over the weekend in San Antonio with Louisiana State officials seeking to fill the vacancy created when they fired John Brady in February.

Bennett was among those spoken to by LSU representatives, as was Stanford coach and Seattle product Trent Johnson. Despite making the Sweet 16 this year, Stanford and Johnson haven’t yet finalized a contract extension, and he is in the final year of his pact.

Clemson coach Oliver Purnell is believed to be a prime target of LSU’s search.

Ben Howland was a no brainer when State hired him and look how that turned out.

If it’s Tony Bennett then wow we won’t have to pay someone to sing the national anthem anymore. I’m sure old Tony would be glad to keep his vocal cords in shape by singing the national anthem at the games.

Calipari is paid about $8 million per year. To get a high-level coach who's willing to be compensated for up to three plus years in post-season ban and possible scholarship restrictions [and likely need a six plus year contract to overcome all of those anchors in the short-come and have the program trending in the right direction in year's four through six], it'll likely require $6-8 million annually with probably at least $30 million guaranteed. Perhaps that will attract a Bennett, Cronin, Cooley, Woodson, White, Few, Smart, etc.

Alternatively, go after a Cuonzo Martin or Tom Crean who has SEC Experience and solid background, but was recently fired due to team performance.

If you’d have told me we were hiring Bennett last time the job was open I would’ve been excited but his style hasn’t come close to winning since his title. Not just Virginia btw, all the teams who play like his teams do

There has only been 1 tournament though since their national title. I just want to get a proven winner who can recruit and get us back on the right track (whoever that coach may be).

He’s won fewer games than Wade since his title run even though he was sitting atop the ACC from that point. The game is moving away from what he does, we can get someone better. Maybe not a better resume but better moving forward.

I would be SHOCKED if he left Virginia. A place where he has proven he can win a National Championship. This isn’t like Kelly where there was a cap on what he could achieve at ND.

That said, perhaps out of coincidence, his was the first name mention to me as a possible replacement by the same person who told me two months ago “the NCAA is going to release something about the investigation right before the tournament starts.” I dismissed, that statement then and all the way up to the point that person proved to be dead on. Perhaps I shouldn’t be so skeptical now.
