Fellow OBers. I had two pointers a male and a female dumped at my lease. They are VERY well mannered and I’m trying to keep out of a shelter. If you know anyone looking I’ll deliver if anywhere close to between Vicksburg and north shore tomorrow. The female is very birdy I put her on a dead duck today.
I would keep her but already have three dogs can’t keep another. Any help out there? Trying my damdest to keep from the train station

Seems odd that some trained bird dogs would have gotten dumped off???
Id take one but kinda feels like stealing if they are actually trained bird dogs

German short-hairs? How old you think they are?

There are three of them they haven’t been fed in a while and one has a broken hip and I will have to put down tomorrow which I have never done and not looking forward to. They are way too friendly to humans to not have been someone’s. I would love to find an owner and happy ending. I don’t believe that’s going to happen. They don’t deserve how I found them.
They are pointers no idea beyond that. I can’t post pictures here anymore I’ll be happy to text them if someone os interested or e mail. I want them to be safe and happy.

I am involved with a very reputable rescue in the New Orleans area. Please let me know if these dogs still need help. Thanks.

If you could I would take them by a vets office and see if they have microchips.

If anyone is interested in the dogs I have them loaded up and in my truck I am headed home and will be on the North Shore in about three hours I would be happy to meet someone or if you all know of someone that has a no kill shelter that might take them I would be happy to sponsor them they are definitely hunting dogs and appear to have been hunted. They could make a good dog for someone. I will check for chips when I am in civilization no way to do that at my camp. I’ll keep checking here in case someone has some interest.

What happened to the dogs?

I really wish I had a way to help. I love dogs so much. We currently have 5 dogs of our own but we recently found a beautiful solid black mix that favors a Belgian Malinois & something smaller kind of(he's 60lbs est). Hard to tell but he's the sweetest with people, he just wants to catch(possibly kill) any and all cats he sees. He's on a 25ft runner chain in my yard right now because I can't let him loose due to the cats. I built him a huge dog house out of pallets, put shingles on the roof and installed a heat lamp hanging from the roof for him. I really love the dog but our situation just doesn't fit well for him.
We are an hour north of Alexandria.
Took him to the vet for ear mites and they think he's about 2 years old from his teeth. Has endless energy but just wants to play with his toy ball non-stop. I've had him inside my house twice as a test and he just flops on the couch next to me. Really a fantastic animal if I just wasn't stuck with the cats too.

Well we spent a week searching for a possible owner and a possible landing place. We notified every shelter and dog group within 120 miles of our camp. We also notified several locals in the area (we are very secluded here not many locals) no one has found anyone that claims them.
We then tried to find a landing place for the dogs (who had no collars and hasn’t eaten in a while they were scary thin). No rescue or foster group had room for them. I then called every upland game farm for 300 miles to see if any of them could use two pointers no luck. We had the dogs all over Facebook as well.
Finally trying to take care of kids our three dogs and run our business it was hard to find time for two more dogs. We took them to the St Tammany shelter where they wouldn’t be killed (what we were told 97% no kill rate) with a very heavy heart. They refused them saying they had no room … then in miraculous fashion while in the parking lot a friend of a friend is starting a quail preserve in independence and is a dog trainer with a very nice facility. He took the two dogs and it seems like a perfect fit. I am very relieved the dogs aren’t in a shelter and not starving in the woods. I still haven’t stopped looking for a possible owner but I firmly believe they were dumped.

Those dogs hit the jackpot hats off to you!! I would still be looking for my dog. I hope the new owners are able to put thousands of birds i front of those “mutts” and walk away saying they were the best dogs they ever saw

I cannot like this thread enough. Reading about all that’s wrong with the world, to read a heartwarming story really feels good. Prost!
