I encounter the black bear often. Had one with my pack in his mouth. That one got sprayed. Had momma & cubs on trail in dark. I simply detoured. Had a big male jaw clicking , ears back, slobbering, i just stayed in stand. He went on . Had one stand up on me. We just went our own way. ALL in La.
Had one come up and sniff my leg. I have that on video. Would be glad to post it if i knew how to.
I think it gets blown out of proportion from less woods experience folks and trend following

Ive had a couple of close encounters. Once the bears figured I was human, they walked/ran off. Was still glad I had a rifle as I was deer hunting both times.
