Agreed. In an earlier episode, Mark told Petey that no one lives on the other side of him (opposite Mrs. Selvig) and that "the neighborhood never really filled up."
Definitely something to the desolation of those places and the town in general. It's like they've been placed there just to be monitored.
And some of the other people we actually do see are slightly off. What's up with that weird couple from the birthing cottages?

I think the wife is severed and the husband controls her “innie and outtie”.. she seemed to have no clue who Mark’s sister was at the park.
