Thank y’all for the suggestions. We are going for my wife’s work. I will have some free time to get out and explore.

The reason for the steakhouse ask is that we are both unfamiliar with the cuisine from the area and we know what to order when at a steakhouse. I’m more adventurous than she is. That’s why I asked for the casual eateries for lunch. I like to try new things. She will be busy and I’m free to go where I choose.
Thanks again.

It's not like this is another country. The food will be familiar enough whatever restaurant you choose.

You could go out to City Park if the weather is nice. There is a nice sculpture garden behind the Museum of Art. There is also a Cafe Du Mond so you can avoid the downtown crowds if you want to try it.

For the most part, our food isn't anything most would consider "too weird" to eat. At least not what's in restaurants. If you're both unfamiliar with Louisiana cuisine, I would argue that's an even bigger reason not to go to a steakhouse. Do a nice dinner at Brigtsen's or GW Fins or something. Something with a beautiful representation of seafood.

That said, I think Doris Metropolitan is the best overall steak restaurant in the city. It is high end, and will make her happy if she's a gal who likes that sort of atmosphere. And you can get as adventurous, or stay as safe, as you want.

For you - Since you're not from here, I would definitely recommend Cochon for lunch when you're wandering around.
