So, why shouldn't we have a choice to donate to TAF or NIL during season ticket renewals etc? That would fix some of the shortfall.....

There’s already a TAF fee and the school can’t pay for NIL deals for players.

Can you really donate to NIL though?

If there was a collective to donate to NIL I would give to that.
No reason it isn’t possible, small donors have worked in politics for decades.

It is unreal the amount of people on here who think the school is paying these deals.

I don’t know about donations toward NIL. But it sure would be nice to know who makes up the contributors to LSU’s NIL so we can start sending all the damn business we can to them. I live in Idaho and I’m hiring Gordon for any of my legal shite going forward if I can!

If tigerdroppings had a way to contribute to sponsoring NIL deals I would throw a few bills at it and I bet there are a lot of others who would as well.

Because it’s a foundation. Can not pay for the benefit of an individual. Would lose all tax benefits for TAF and be out of business.
NIL is not pay for play. Schools can not participate. Title IX still applies. Supreme Court just said that NCAA can not prevent an athlete from making money.
Texas A&M will be on probation soon.

Because TAF needs the money to pay off all of the overpaid contracts and buyouts of the last couple of years.

Great idea. From a business standpoint a NIL contribution is an advertising expense which can be written off 100%. That's a big plus since charitable philanthropic contributions are restricted to a percentage that can be deducted from income.
For a small business sole proprietorship or S corp you are talking about having to make a very large TAF contribution to get a tax benefit. The standard deduction for a couple this year is $25,900. That means that if you give $25,900 to TAF this year you would get no tax benefit because its the same amount as the standard deduction you already get. You deduct the higher of $29,500 or your donation to TAF but not both.
You may have seen commercials for your southern chevy dealers or ford dealers. In the same way a cooperative could be formed for tiger businessmen where you could pool small amounts given by individuals for advertising to be used for NIL. This would be an advertising expense in addition to $25,900 standard deduction. The problem is how do you get philanthropic points for putting up NIL "advertising dollars" to the co-op. The answer is that TAF can do anything it wants. Your money to the advertising co-op could be treated as "box tops" or "coupons" redeemed by TAF for philanthropic points. Sort of like the old green stamps!

You can reach out and hire a player if you want - That's NIL. The school doesn't control NIL deals.
That said there are some NIL companies that are setting up 'go fund me' type or arrangements specific to a respective school. They're hiring athletes to rep and support the process.
