It's pretty common for second tier US athletes who don't make the team to represent countries they have some ethnic connection to. The Greek Olympic baseball team last Olympics was made up almost entirely of Greek Americans, many of whom had never set foot in Greece before becoming Olympians. The fact that it's China, a rival and potential enemy, definitely leaves a sour taste though.

Yep. Hell, Mondo Duplantis, who was born and raised in Lafayette and competed at LSU now competes in the Olympics for Sweden. You didn't hear a lot of backlash on this board...even though I think it is equally as chicken shite as what this girl is doing. The ONLY difference is that she is competing for China.
Both are doing so because they believe they can be more marketable and earn more money competing for a foreign country. That is fine. That's their decision. But it is my opinion that you should at least have to have permanent residence in the country for whom you compete. She has no more desire to live in China than flying to the moon. Yet another product of America exceptionalism the otherwise useless Chinese just prefer to steal.

Well I don't recall many Greeks coming to the USA to escape communist Greece.
