Hope she gets better. Vent seems like the worst thing they do. I'd ask for some of the other treatments (Ivermectin, monoclonal ab, or at least a steroid for inflammation) and see what they say.

Others may have already chimed in, but:

1). Goodluck getting a Hospitalist or Pulmonologist to order Ivermectin.

2). If patient is hypoxic requiring supplemental oxygen then they will not order Monoclonal AB they will claim that it’s too late for that. You can still demand it(don’t ask, demand), and see what they say. It’s worth a shot.

3). Yes they will order IV Decadron steroids probably twice a day

4). They will start Remdesevir, but again if she is requiring Bipap it may not be effective at this point, but worth a shot.

5). They may order Kevzara or some other interleukin 6 inhibitor, which can help to calm down the inflammatory storm raging inside her body.

6). Chance of survival once intubated is very low, but is age dependent to a degree. I don’t say this to be callous or mean spirited these are just the statistics; you need to get any legal affairs in order just in case.

7). The bodies inflammatory reaction to Covid is like a fully loaded freight train: once it gets going it takes miles to slow down and come to a stop. Medical science has NO IDEA yet why some people have such a severe inflammatory reaction to the virus, while others are relatively spared.

This is why it is CRITICAL to treat as early as possible. Monoclonal AB as soon as diagnosed. Steroids. Ivermectin and Hydroxychloroquine if that’s your thing.

The worst patients I see are those who try to fight it out at home for 7-10 days and then come in O2 in the 70’s or 80’s and by that point their lungs are already trashed from the inflammation. By that point some are already dead men walking, they just don’t know it yet. 99% unvaccinated. Yes most people recover fine regardless of vaccination status, but it sure sucks for you and your family if you are one of the unlucky ones.

Thankfully, in the next couple months the oral anti-viral pill cocktails will hit the market, so people can rely on something OTHER than the vaccine. Your primary doctor can just call them into your local pharmacy, and these will decrease hospitalizations by atleast 80% it looks, and deaths by an even larger margin.

8). And most importantly: You will be in my and my family’s prayers.
