They’ll probably move them to be built somewhere a bridge isn’t needed so some politician can hire his brother in law to build them.

I'm thinking about 20 feet upstream of the Audubon Bridge should do it.

These bridges have been needing to be built for 30 years or more. However, all the North LA politicians don't want to spend big money on South LA projects, no matter how important for the entire state. Then you have the local parish politicians that bicker and fight over the trivial things like putting the bridge in their parish instead of the best place for overall traffic flow and area wide economic growth.

So we’re going to have a new new bridge now? Is that what we’ll call it?

I think the idea is that would, yes, change.

If the feds are going to foot the vast majority of the cost, no reason to PPP it

The LA governor is so powerful yet they use their power for stupid crap like influencing LSU and COVID lockdowns.

We need a governor who will say... we have this money... we have this need... this will be paid for mainly by the feds with a state match... this is where the new bridge will go... STFU.

I don't understand how the 14 people who still live in North Louisiana have any political say at all.

A bridge that goes from around Dow to St. Gabriel then connects to I-10 around Bluff Rd. is what needs to happen. When that’s done build a highway from Dow to Grosse Tete.

In addition, Louisiana is in line for about $6 billion over five years for roads and bridges and other infrastructure from the $1 trillion bill that cleared Congress last year.

What are the chances this guy isn't mentioned at all in the Advocate article?

I read some time ago that they were going to try to get it to Jacksonville Florida at some point. Are you sure it is still in LC?

If you’re talking about those in the state legislature, why wouldn’t they have a say?

I'm of course being a little hyperbolic... but... point is N. LA represents a smaller and smaller portion of the population, and their control and influence should shrink along with that.

They should get some projects but this idea that N. LA and S. LA need to be treated equally needs to go.

I might be able to drive across this new Mississippi River Bridge when I'm 70.
If construction of it started today I'd estimate your present age at 14.

It's been 54 years since the new Bridge opened (1968).

Orleck left in December.
LINK

There's still this group that uses the port north of the bridge, but I think it's time to force them to move.

Agreed. They can do their business elsewhere. (a charity???; is it even legit?)

I don't think that bridge needs to be so high. It would certainly lessen the cost of the entire project.

Yes , Lunchmeat,Needlenose.Dago,Potch,Skeeter, and the Judge will all try to throw their Police Jury influence in order to have the bridge cross at Waterproof, Coochie, or Hohem Solms, or perhaps Hymel. Provincialism is Super Skrong in this "state" .

It's definitely a legit charity, but they need to be forced to move. It's time to move forward with a reasonable bridge.

I think Lake Charles will eventually need a crossing around Moss Lake too.

Agreed. Build it now rather than later. A bridge down there would still need to be high enough to accommodate the ocean-going vessels that use the ship channel.

Paying for their relocation may well be cheaper than the added cost of a higher bridge clearance.
