It's not necessarily what Zion does offensively that is his Waterloo...it's what he can't (at least as of yet) do defensively. I think his defensive rating and rebounding numbers from last year attest to this.

People ask about who would sit if he returns this year. I say:

"Pick your poison".

Sit Josh and you lose rebounding and baseline to baseline energy on both sides of the court. Sit Herb and you sit the best defender on your team if not the division.

Truly the odd man out should be Graham, but you lose your best outside threat who you want on the court with Zion.

Defensive Rating:

Graham (110.2) = C- .... (Size Limitations; post up liability)
Hart (111.9) = D .... (Gambles way too much; often plays 'D' with his hands)
Herb (108.3) = B- .... (Always draws opponents best offensive player; excellent feet)
BI (110.2) = C- .... (Weak inside; get's overpowered)
JV (108.7) = C .... (Get's weaker the further he is from the goal; bad feet)

Zion (111.7*) = D .... (Lost in space; gets caught ball-watching too often).

* Last year's season score

I guess my question is: will whatever he might add offensively (remember the officiating is diiferent this year from last), be offset by the liability of his poor defense?

Rebounding wasn't an issue last season, at all. Quite the opposite.

Zion's numbers were low by design, he was leaking out in transition more so than sitting under the rim waiting for a rebound because we were a top 3 rebounding team, we didn't need him to grab 10 boards a game.
