For LSU (rumor)
And crystal football for the National championship (football) while he was president of the national coaches association
I have never seen the helmet but I hope it shows up one day-
The football was created for the bcs trophy-
McClendon was a creative guy

He was good friends with my grandfather and we have all sorts of one of a kind LSU items he gifted my family over the years.

And you’ve never met a nicer man. I grew up in the same neighborhood that he lived in, and his son played in our pickup football games. I drive past there today and look at that modest house and think about what schools are paying coaches now. Times have changed.

I was a Marine in Vietnam when LSU played Arkansas in the 1966 Cotton Bowl. I wrote Coach McClendon a letter telling him there were a lot of us pulling for a win.
He wrote me back, said he appreciated the support, and told me to drop by for a visit when I returned home. The Tigers won, and some Razorback Marines had to pay some bets.
In 1967 I dropped by and visited with the coach and introduced him to my new bride.
He was very gracious, and it was a big day for this longtime Tigers fan.
