I lost my mom in March ‘20 and my dad in May ‘20. I was 42. My dad and I were very tight for many years. To make a long story short, though, alcohol got a grip on him and we weren’t on speaking terms when he died. The last time I saw him alive was at my mom’s funeral.
I have some guilt and a lot of sympathy for my mom. She was good as gold. I was good to her except that I wasn’t around as much as I should have been. She deserved a hell of a lot more from my dad.
My dad is more tragic than sympathetic. In his prime he had a lot of success and was highly respected. But at the end of his life he had a lot of health, financial, and legal problems and he caused every single one of them.
