A few important dates to be aware of:
- January 17: Deadline to declare for the NFL draft. We should know everyone who is going pro by this date.
- January 18: Start of spring semester at LSU. After this date, transfers (both in and out) become less likely. That being said, players can still transfer after the spring semester and be eligible for 2022 as long as they enter the portal before May 1.
- January 26/27: Final days to add and drop classes at LSU. Again, transfers (both in and out) for the spring semester become even less likely after this date.
- February 2: National signing day. This is the start of the NLI signing period for high school recruits.
- April 1: End of the NLI signing period for high school recruits. High school recruits “signed” after April 1 will not actually sign an NLI. Typically limited to academic risks (see: Justin Jefferson).
- May 1: Final day to enter the transfer portal and be eligible to compete in fall 2022 (assuming the player qualifies for the one-time transfer exception). They don’t have to actually transfer by May 1, but they have to be in the portal. Otherwise they aren’t eligible until 2023.
