Louisiana Used Vehicle Tax Question

I bought a vehicle for $XX,000 out of state and the bank that financed it sent me a true and exact copy of the bill of sale in the mail along with the title to register the vehicle in Louisiana. The express DMV in my town indicated that they need the original bill of sale, which is currently at the out of state bank. The owner/operator of this establishment also indicated she recently bought a used vehicle herself for $XX,000 but the seller agreed to write the BOS for $X,000.

If my seller agrees to a rewritten BOS for $X,000 instead of $XX,000 in front of a notary, is it possible the state would ever know any difference even though the loan is already finalized? After all, the owner of this express DMV did exactly that.

Yes, I want to screw this rotten state if it is possible without repercussions.

I’m sure many of you have had this same experience. Help a brotha out.

I’ve never sold or bought a used vehicle from a private seller for more than $300. :wink wink: TTFWIW.

No Mr. State Tax Man, I have not participated in the falsification of notarized documents in order to deny you tax money.

And if I had (which I haven't, Mr. Tax Man), I would have done it without asking the interwebz if it was ok.

I will never understand how you can buy something in one state, pay taxes on it then have to go and pay taxes on it in another state just for bringing it to that state.

OM.
How about making people pay taxes on the same vehicle every time it's sold?

You could have 6 different people buy the same damn truck in Louisiana, and every one of them has to pay taxes on that vehicle. And the state wastes it.

Pretty much the same here. Then they started asking about the condition of the vehicle and I've always said, very poor and needs lots of work when buying or selling used vehicles and that sufficed.

That said, the last used vehicle I bought used was in 1978 and gave it to a friend when I bought a new truck in 95. Every vehicle I've bought since then has been new so you can't play that dodge.

it doesnt matter what you want, you have to pay taxes on the book value of the vehicle even if you have a notarized bill of sale saying you bought it for $5

there is a cut off though, i think its 15 years old or something like that, where they then go by whatever the bill of sale says or the value you tell them you bought it for.

I didn't like the WRONG answer given on the money board. The bank has nothing to do with "presenting the bill of sale" to the OMV. This is how it works... I obtain the bill of sale from the bank and then "I" present it to the OMV. Plus you guys on the money board are so frickin boring and pathetic.

Nope, the guy cut you a friend and family discount on the vehicle. So long as you're buying what you said with the loan they don't care how much extra interest you're paying on the extra cash

Tell the guy you bought it from to write the BOS for $500. If he balks, tell him you'll pay him some cash and PayPal it immediately.

frick the state and their taxes.
