This hire is mainly about mending fences with the alumni. Shaw is bleeding a LOT of potential students from their own backyard. Bitter alumni would rather drive past Shaw (and their sister school next door, AOL) every morning and take their sons and daughters to Eastbank schools, and a LOT of that stems from what went down in Begg vs Coach Hank.

It's not about fixing the football program as much as it is about fixing Shaw's own reputation with its' community.

Did a wonderful job as Administrator in bringing down both Shaw and Rummel.

I just assumed, like Rummel, the issue was the public / magnet schools getting better and pulling away kids that used to go to Catholic schools because public was so bad.

It's definitely a factor across the board, yes; however, the kids who are still going Catholic on the Westbank are by-and-large choosing to cross the river more often than not, and that began after the shitshow went down with Hank.

I probably know both of y'all... 2003. At least, would've been Shaw 03 had Big Ernie not kicked me out. Spent my final year at Ehret.

I wonder what ol Ernie Chaisson is up to these days. Ernie wasn’t even the biggest hard arse. That was Dennis Coulon.

Those kids are going to schools on the East Bank because Shaw is no longer a viable school. It has nothing to do with Tierneys exit at this point and everything to do with Shaw not being somewhere that certain demographics can send their children to at this point not to mention their wives would have a meltdown if their kid was going to Shaw over Jesuit or Brother Martin. On top of that most of the middle to upper middle class white families that used to live on the West Bank have either moved to the East Bank, Northshore, or out of state. Nobody is crossing that bridge to bring their kid through the gates of the Siesta Motel to a school that is about 30 years outdated with 300 students and the worst education offered among Catholic Schools in the Metro Area. 70yr old Hank Tierney isn't changing any of that.

This hire made ZERO sense to me.

He is a very good coach, but a TERRIBLE fit in that community. Winning cures all, so I guess we will see. With Cyril Crutchfield being at Bogalusa, he job will be more difficult as he will have fewer ball players to work with.
