Enter the portal or actually transfer? I'm not sure why it would matter when they enter the portal as much as when they actually leave the institution.

There seems to be much confusion on the wording of the NCAA one time waiver and finding same on the internet to peruse same has been a futile. It all depends on the actual wording of the waiver.

I agree with you, these kids had to stay in school in order to maintain their eligibility for next year, even if same is used at a new school.

And the actual NCAA press release announcing the one time waiver begins:

"The Division I Council this week approved a one-year waiver of the annual signing limit and initial scholarship limits in football to allow schools to replace up to seven scholarship student-athletes who leave school after the first term." Link to NCAA press release

This suggests that LSU should have 7 spots to use to me, but what is the actual wording of the waiver?

Numerous media outlets have opined on the subject and have intimated that there is "transfer portal" verbage in the waiver. So who really knows without the benefit of the actual waiver.

NCAA gonna NCAA.

I don't have much confidence in the college recruiting media to get the details right on these things.

Back in 2018, most of them were reporting that you could no longer use unused spots for early entrants the following year.

This article with misinformation is still up on the 247 website.
