I WAS THERE - great trip.

Funnest part was stopping at an Applebees in Auburn for a bathroom break and running around the parking lot with Tiger flags like the cheer squad does after scores. Yes, I devolve into immaturity around Tiger championship events sometimes. Sue me.

They couldn’t stop mauk running. It was amazing. Keeping Tennessee from a national championship was amazing. Then murdering Illinois with Kurt kittner was amazing. LSU was playing as well as anyone at the end of that season

and the fun continued. We spent Christmas that year in Asheville NC. We were at the Grove Park Inn when I encountered an elderly man wearing Tennessee colors. I had on an LSU cap. We made eye contact - he said, "y'all cost us an opportunity at a national championship". I replied - that it was just payback for 1959. He laughed and agreed, telling me he was at the 1959 game.

If I remember right, I was in the dome that night with my dad watching the prep classic while listening on the radio. Remember a big chunk of the crowd around us going wild after Mauck put us up for good in the 4th. Couldn't wait to get home to watch those highlights. Was 11 at the time, and that season kickstarted the more intense fandom for me.

The Renaissance really started with the regular season win over UT on 9/30/20.

That was the first year I can remember watching football as a kid. Man have I been spoiled with all our great teams and winning seasons.

I was confident LSU was a different team than when they played UT earlier in the season. But then Davey went out and you figured it was just a matter of time before the defense simply couldn't hold off Tenn. any longer. Then the game kept going and LSU kept hanging in before eventually taking the lead. The two Tenn. fumbles completely changed the game. The first one led to LSU taking the lead in the 2nd half and the second one led to LSU putting the game away

There was optimism going into the season, but NO ONE saw an SEC championship coming. It was a fun time to be a fan. Winning wasn't EXPECTED at that time. So that championship came as a huge surprise...and joy. The other SEC championships since have been more "relief" than pure joy
