So, I heard if I checked my credit score on freecreditreport.com, then it would decrease my credit score. Is this true? Thanks.

www.annualcreditreport.com

NOT freecreditreport.com

freecreditreport.com is a scam, annualcreditreport.com is the one you want.

I've never heard that, and I'm 99.83% sure that it's not true.

Your credit score is only affected when you permit a company to do a credit check so that you can obtain a loan.

No. Pulling your own report is not treated as a "credit check" like from a lending institution. It will have absolutely no effect at all

Please, please, please do not use freecreditreport.com. Use annualcreditreport.com instead.

Freecreditreport is a for-profit company that signs you up for an extremely expensive and extremely worthless service billed monthly in exchange for a credit report.

Annualcreditreport is a government-mandated service provided by the 3 credit reporting agencies for free.

I've heard, but can't say for sure, that having lots of inquiries is a red-flag for any interested party. A credit rating is a completely subjective measure of credit. Any established loan company will make their own decision based on the information in the report rather than the rating.
