What is the benefit gained by taking on the risk of vaccination?

So you suggest that my question is terrible, and then ask this, proving you don't understand anything about infectious disease. From your answer, it suggests there isn't a risk associated with the vaccine that isn't also a possible sequelae of the virus itself. If there was a risk that was specific to the vaccine, outside of vaccine-associated injury, that would change the metric. Clinically, we do see the vaccines providing protection from serious disease, but respiratory illnesses will have breakthrough infections because it is difficult to control transmission rates.

If you are old or fat or old and fat, you should give very serious consideration to taking the vaccine. Your vax risk likely buys you a significant benefit.

So 75% of American adults possibly fall into this demographic, if we are talking about people who are overweight but not obese.
