This is from texags and seems consistant with what I have seen and representative of the Longhorn view of the SEC as a whole.

quote:

The SEC will NEVER be an option for Texas. Why? The IMAGE. I'm not saying it's right, wrong, or anything else but that it IS. Vandy is a great school. There are arguments for every college and you can get a great education at SFA if you apply yourself, but the fact is that nationally the SEC is seen as a group of over-drinking, NASCAR watching, win first, study second, football is king and the library can go to Hell, redneck schools.

what they don't get - is that's exactly what people outside of the region think of Texas and OU schools

Texas is full of themselves. Nobody really needs Texas. Not A&M not OU not anyone. They live in their own minds and think that the rest of the country thinks as highly of them as they think of themselves. Trust me I know plenty of dumbass rednecks who went to Texas. And since they are such a big school they have more dumbass rednecks than most.

It may be time for the Gumps to make a move east to the ACC. To rehab our image and all.

Do any of you watch nascar? I'm just curious, I've never watched it and everyone seems to think everybody in the south watches nascar.

haha,, that's pretty damn accurate,, I know the Higher education committee of the state legislature has asked for emergency meeting,,inviting the Presidents of UT,AM,Tech,Baylor,Rice, UH, SMU, TCU,N Texas and UTEP to Austin on Wed

High Placed Texas insiders say truthfully nothing has been decided,, UT would rather wait a few more years before committing to any other conference,, because,, at the end of the day Texas has the type of draw that any conference would want them in..

the BIG 10 seem to think the same way taking a wait and see approach with first choice being ND second choice Texas,, but Texas wants at least one other Texas School to come with Texas wants A&M,, the Big 10 wants RICE

SEC want into Texas, but individual schools are concerned with splitting current TV contract with 2-4 new members,, So far ESPN refuses to renegotiate but it UT and A&M were the two making the move OF course more $$$ could be found

No. I have heard of it though. I think it is where those advertisements on wheels go in circles for several hours and occasionally run into each other.

Here's my post over on the Texas board...

quote:

It's all about academics guys... we are the Harvard of the south west. Despite the fact that that we have a $12,100,000,000 + (That's 12.1 billion dollars) endowment, we need to get more money for research, and the only way we can do this is by joining the Pac 10 and hanging out w/ Stanford grads on Saturdays. Also, I really want to join a conference that's elite in softball, water polo, and tennis, because those are the sports that matters to me. I also don't mind packing the family in the car and driving 2,000 miles west to see my Longhorn's play on Saturday... so Pac 16 here we come!!!

that seems unlikely

if they need another texas school why would rice be preferential over other options?
