Give the guy a break. All he was doing is practicing for his first SEC tailgating party.

This incident has convinced me that Missouri is not fit for the SEC.

quote:

Deputies pulled Pinkel over in his Chevrolet Avalanche for lane and signal violations on Keene Street near Broadway around 10 p.m. The sheriff's department said this is Pinkel's first offense, and deputies said he was cooperative.

This is NOT how you handle yourself when pulled over by the cops, Gary. You could learn something from former Georgia AD Damon Evans. This is how you handle the situation SEC-style.

[link=(

quote:

But just before he was booked into Atlanta City Jail on a DUI charge, Evans was "crying uncontrollably," said Trooper M. Cabe, who pulled over Evans' 2009 BMW after he meandered across the center line of Roswell Road near Chastain Drive at 11:55 p.m. Wednesday.

Evans, who admitted to drinking three Vodka cocktails, began bargaining with the trooper as soon as he realized he might be placed under arrest. "I am not trying to bribe you but I'm the athletic director of the University of Georgia," Evans said.

AND
quote:

The trooper, who noted that Evans had a pair of red panties between his legs, asked the athletic director "what her panties were doing in his side of the seat. He stated, ?She took them off and I held them because I was just trying to get her home.' "

Evans told the trooper "there was nothing there" between him and the Buckhead woman "because he had a wife and family."

AND
quote:

After he was arrested, the father of two -- who refused a Breathalyzer -- told the trooper, "We go through life and we all drink and jump in a car."

UPDATE: Gary Pinkel Suspended for a Week Without Pay
quote:

COLUMBIA - Mike Alden confirmed that Gary Pinkel will be suspended immediately for a week without pay. He will sit out the football game on Saturday against Texas Tech.

When Pinkel returns next Thursday, he will donate his next week's salary to the MU Wellness Resource Center. Pinkel will be required to perform 50 hours of community service.

Alden says there will be a one-year salary freeze for Coach Pinkel. If the Tigers qualify for a bowl game this year, he will be ineligible for a bowl bonus this year.

Pinkel will be expected to write a public letter of apology. Also, there will be a letter of reprimand placed in his personnel file.

Alden noted that this is an isolated incident and that he does not expect this to happen again, and that Chancellor Deaton supports his decision. Alden said of Pinkel, "He was unbelievably remorseful."

Someone on texags.com did the math, and this is going to cost Pinkel a total of around $300k.

This punishment strikes me as just over the top.

Why did Mizzouri join the SEC? To improve its national image. What is the first thing that happens that gets them National Interest? Pinkel's DWI.

Especially for an SEC coach. We'd "investigate" and suspend him either for a week during the offseason or the bye week.
