would it have been better to keep BDP to recruit...

and find a new special teams coordinator? BDP could be the recruiting coordinator, he's at least good at that

That would look like shite if we did that. No future recruits would want to come here if they knew we fired a coach that recruited them.

I didn't catch the details of the release, but maybe he didn't want to be on staff with O and it was a mutual parting?

BDP is the #5 ranked recruiter per 247sports. I'm sorry, but if you can recruit that well, then you don't even need to coach anything.

BDP might be a shite STs coach but most say he's a good guy, I'm sure they also did this as a favor to him to give him plenty of time to find a good job. You'd limit his options if you just used him for another few months and then cut him loose after NSD.

Those rankings are screwy
He is getting more points for Grant Delpit and Kary Vincent than Corey Raymond
He got "Primary recruiter" status for Rashard Lawrence over O.
IF you want to see how screwy that list is look at who the #2 LSu recruiter is.
