That would be a great hire for them. I have a hard time seeing Riley leaving Oregon State though.

Solid hire if they can get him.

But the guy loves him some Oregon State and probably wants to retire in Corvallis.

Mike Riley already has a job, Wisconsin shouldn't be poaching coaches, but I'm sure Alvarez got permission from Oregon State's AD first.

If you mean Petersen, he didn't return Alvarez's calls.

So he's willing to leave Oregon State for Wisconsin, but wouldn't take the Alabama job in 2003. I guess not all former players are too kin on coaching at their Alma mater.

I even think that his father coached at Oregon State.

per wiki on Mike Riley's father, I was unaware that Mike played at Bama.

At Riley's age I don't know why he would be interested in uprooting his life to go from a good steady gig to a bigger job that probably won't tolerate the swings that are tolerated at OSU.

If Riley is actually considering moving, I wonder if he got a bad vibe from his bosses last year after finishing 3-9, and he resented a veiled or even open threat to can him if he didn't have a big turnaround in 2012.

Well, in all fairness to Riley, I believe he told Moore that he planned to take it but wanted to discuss with his family first. I think Mrs. Riley is the reason Mike Riley didn't take the job.

As for Wisky, I don't see him taking this job. I think Wisky might end up with a default hire of Mel Tucker.
