The most glaring thing I've learned in this whole thing is Texas has big mouths. If they could've contained themselves they might not be in the mess they're looking at now.

- Ensure that Mack Brown was on board with the move

- Pay 2X the salary he made at Alabama

- Give him an unlimited payroll budget for assistant coaches

- Offer a 10-year guaranteed contract, whether he retired or not.

Texas was prepared to meet these conditions, setting up the biggest coaching coup in college football history.

Now, if the rumor are true and he owes $20,000,000+, and those were the conditions.I honestly think Nick Saban considered going to Texas despite everything he had at Bama. I bet getting Texas to bend over backwards like that would at least be a nice ego boost.

But don't you see that's how arrogant they are. If they tell you that they want you, you're supposed to fall to your knees and kiss their ring in gratitude.

No way that they were gonna offer him 10 Million a year, if anyone tells you that they were, they are full of shite.

Rumor. True. See the problem here. They may be hiring here. Gullible is TD, apply online...hook and sinker.

Is there anything about him that would make you think that he'd put himself in a $20,000,000 hole? Have you ever seen anything legit that would lead you to believe that he's in financial trouble? And please don't cite TD posters that made it up and ran with it for all of a week.

Sounds 100% believable. Especially when written by "anonymous"

That's not even the dumbest thing the article says. It says they were going to guarantee him 100 million, even if he only worked one year.

That timeline sure explains the mystery surrounding Saban waiting so long to sign the extension after it was presented to him along with Brown's "I'm staying. I'm really staying. I'm really, really staying. (Saban signs extension.) Okay, I'm quitting" routine from Friday to Sunday.

What doesn't ring true in that article is that if they were willing to go through all that and pay that insane amount of money, why wouldn't they just tell Mack that he is done and GTFO because it's your last season. You would think they would just make the move after all that and who gives a shite about a 10 win season or a Big12 title when they were plotting all this out before the season started.

I never thought Coach Saban would leave but that is an interesting article. The part that caused me to second guess it was that TX would give him a guaranteed $100 million/10 yr contract that he could walk away from at any time and he would still be paid $100 million over the 10 years

if this is true then they are fricking desperate

it'd be awesome if true and Saban coached one year, got a ring, and gtfo

- Ensure that Mack Brown was on board with the move

Late that night, multiple Texas boosters in the loop get a text message from a member of Saban’s inner circle (not Sexton): “Can he step down on Monday so we can announce Nick taking the job on Tuesday?”

This is nonsensical. One of the conditions is that Mack Brown be okay with the move, and on the Saturday night he loses the Big Ten championship game, Saban's people want him to resign the job a day later.
