Friendly Texas guy here. You guys may not be interested, but I'll give you my two cents on Gilbert.
- First and probably most important, is his offensive system and practice methods will absolutely hurt the LSU defense unless he's changed. I still can't believe Charlie Strong allowed it, but one of Gilbert's biggest things is to go full speed all practice and make corrections in film sessions the following day. For defense, no stopping during practice and correcting mistakes. This is no different than what he learned from Briles and it kills defense. If he snaps the ball under 20 seconds every play and goes 3 and out, your defense is ran ragged. That offense seriously affected the defense in a very negative way.
- He is absolutely terrified of using the middle of the field. Everything is to the edges and is VERY predictable. At Texas, he basically ran 4-5 plays and it was horrible. He refused to pass to D'Onta Foreman out of the backfield although he was an above average receiver. DB's sat on routes over and over after about 4 games into the season. Very predictable.
- He is stubborn and won't change if what he is doing isn't working.
- If his OL coach comes with him, he is very very good. However, I expected he'll be getting and OC job in the near future.
I think LSU can do much better personally but I'm by no means and expert"

Not sold at all.
I'll have to see an offense untainted by Orgeron before I can believe it.

UT fans saying he’s afraid to throw over the middle and that he destroyed their defense with his style of practice

all the while playing cupcakes every week.
There's something to be said for the hurry-up attacks. If you get into a shootout and you're more comfortable at that pace, you likely will do better than your opponent, if they usually try to grind it out.

I was kind of skeptical since he was part of the Texas staff that completely shite the bed. But looking at the stats his offense put up some yards.
In 2015 (Tulsa) his offense was ranked 13th in the nation in YPG and 21st in PPG
In 2016 (Texas) his offense was ranked 16th in YPG and 46th in PPG.
This year his offense was ranked 6th in YPG and 10th in PPG.
The fact that he’s jumped jobs every year is a bit scary, but this would be a million times better than a TE coach at OC.

You’re right
We did want Cameron and Canada
I still think Canada would have been decent in year two
I don’t want any pro guy. I really do prefer a young brilliant college offensive mind.

His style of practice sounds exactly like Orgeron's. Fast pace with film study later.
And what is the OC doing dictating the pace of a full squad practice? You don't think Strong set the pace we wanted?

because he has a chance to coach at lsu. every coach lsu hires - o, is the best coach in the country. crowton, stud, chavis- remember once he left he sucked & wasn't a good coach anymore, cam, canada. it never fails, you coach at lsu you are the best in the country, if you don't you suck. (according to the rant)

Apparently his playbook is pretty predictable by either running it up the middle or throwing deep down the sidelines with the occasional screen pass thrown in.
Players won’t have to learn new system. This was Canada’s playbook as well, with motion and jet sweeps added in. Great fit for LSU.
If that's true it's a horrible fit. We need to be able to throw the ball to the middle of the field....sick of that shite.

This would be what I'm most afraid of. I don't care how much talent you have or who you're D coordinator is, a defense is not going to make stops if they're gassed most of the game.
