What benefit is there to announcing to the world who your top choice is? Is it a psychological ploy? Seems to me that it would have a reverse effect

Whoever the next offer is given too...it will be very HIGH. It will have to be at this point. This is like playing Poker with your cards facing out.

People who aren’t very smart or lack confidence in their current position like to project what they think everyone wants. They think this will sway people into thinking they are doing a good job.

People like this need constant conformation that they are doing a good job. Anyone who threatens their status, is immediately attacked. That’s why you see the constant propaganda by O’s inner circle in anyone who outshines him or criticizes him.

O is nothing but a fast talking recruiter. Go back and read interviews with recruits who say "they have me as No. 1 on their board". It is a psychological tactic to make the person believe they are the most important.

It has no effect other than to get some of you out of your mind. when he's transparent and things work out, everyone says it's refreshing. when he's transparent and it doesn't work out, everyone says he should shut up. in life you win some and you lose some. I'd much rather a coach who is real and upfront then some coward that hides behind a podium and spews constant lies like Dan Mullen

What difference does it make? You think the next guy really gives a shite that O wanted Freeman over him?

I wanted Freeman, but it’s not the end of the world we didn’t get him. I’m more annoyed that O showed his cards like that. Just makes him and LSU look bad.

You think if O didn't say that Freeman was a top target that would have changed how negotiations went? That is cute.

It really wouldn't matter to me. In life there's always going to be front runners and challengers. Just the way it is in everything. If you're hungry for the job and you're a competitor you jump at the opportunity when the top guy isn't there you don't pack up and leave just because you weren't the first choice.

But a topic like this is an opportunity for all the GM's on the message board to pick the coach apart. So I guess there's value in it for some ...

What would Nick Saban do ? Not this. Just a very poor negotiation strategy.

You nailed it. T-Derek and his student workers who post on message boards to boost morale will not like your post. But it really hits home.

I just can't believe Aranda was taking shot after shot almost all season from O when the current D was getting shredded.

There may be some truth to this. I actually use a very straightforward and transparent approach in sales and it’s very effective with the audience I’m working with. However, you have to be careful not to reveal too much or go too far and end up putting yourself at a disadvantage. You have to walk a fine line and I don’t think O is capable of that.

He is not the brightest star in the sky intellectually, he is a feel guy. Right, wrong or indifferent and will not change.

I don’t think succeed or fail that the showing of hands (Freeman is my #1) is necessarily a bad thing if they(Woodward and whoever else) allow O to hire a white guy now If he wants. O can now say I went all in on the black guy, gave him whatever he wanted, and he stood us up at the alter. Now I’m moving on...

Man try and see this from a non-fanatics reality.. U actually think that Freeman was the end all be all and no other options were considered or lined up. What someone says publicly and what actually is going on is very vastly different. U dummies think u can call a Spade a Spade, when u can't even see the deck being shuffled
