It is not required in the college ranks. I think the NFL has the Art Rooney Rule where you are required to interview at least one minority candidate. It would be just for PR purposes and to keep the Black Coaches Association off of your arse.

I didn't think we did, just keep seeing threads on which minority coach should be interviewed. I think it should be the man best suited for the job!

it is not mandatory, but unless you want to look like a typical southern backwards institution, it would be wise to do it.
if you think about the amount of black players that play college football, and the fact that there are only 7 head coaches out of the 119 teams, it is pretty outrageous. there have got to be some guys/former players that are qualified for it.
as far as interviewing, you have to start somewhere. how is a guy ever going to get a chance if they have a hard time even getting an interview?? an interview with a big program puts the guy's name out there, and could help in future considerations around the country.
my suggestion: look at Mike Singletary.

I would like to also see the HBC's start interviewing more whites for head coaching jobs when they are available.

del rio
Spanish (Del Río): topographic name for someone ‘from the (del) river or stream (río)’.
does this qualify?
