Just speculation based upon USC's 1-5 overall record since he was named their permanent head coach. Losses against Stanford in the Pac-12 championship game, Wisconsin in the Holiday Bowl, and Alabama, Stanford, and Utah in the 2016 season.

He's retiring at OU in a few years and will become the AD there. He has repeatedly said he doesn't want to coach in the NFL.

All signs point to him being a lifer. There isn't close to the amount of unrest as there is with Miles.

In 2014 they slaughtered Alabama in the Sugar Bowl and made the CFP last year.

Because things are bad at SC right now. They have an AD who didn't make the hire and has no reason to be loyal to Helton. In fact there's probably more incentive to fire him and make his own hire.

This is what USC fans have been telling me. I spent the summer smack talking with many of their fans. The ones who still chat with me hate Helton. They see their good recruiting classes as being wasted with the current coaching staff. They hate the play calling and they believe the program is heading in the wrong direction. All of them I have chatted with say that. In other words they are behaving very similar to LSU fans this year. They probably won't fire him after 1 year, but it won't be because Trojan fans don't want to.
