We still saved money that we can spend on a very good OC.

Herman's hc record is 10x better than O's. If he isn't worth over a million then O isn't worth over 100k. O eventually would be a failed product of Alleva and both would need to be shown the door.

Because the current LSU administration is committed to "okay", not excellence.

But if they tip their hand on that to the fanbase too soon, the pitchforks and torches will start coming out.

We offered Jimbo 6.5 + and he wanted more. Thats not going cheap. We could've offered Herman 8 million and he would've still gone to Texas

This was a proactive move. LSU can now monitor the young coaches with potential to see who can build the best resume's over the next 2-4 years IF O fails without any financial repercussions.

Alleva should have been doing this since the day he got here. Every AD is supposed to have a "list in the drawer" of coaches in case of emergency. What's obvious is since the day he got to LSU, Ed Orgeron's name was the only name on the list.

Was that a surprise? Was Aleva under the impression that he was going to get either for less than $5 million? 2 of the most sought after coaches in college football?

If "value" was a concern why not have more lower priced options under consideration?

It's no shock Herman would get a $5 mil offer. Kirby Smart makes almost $4 mil per year. Charlie Strong made $5 mil per year at UT. Hell, Dereck Mason made $2.5 mil at Vandy.

I think LSU would have paid 5M for Herman.

College football is not a free market and doesn't operate like one.

this grand strategy to revolutionize CFB by going cheap on the HC to blow up the coordinator market is going to be glorious to watch unfold
So if this is such an effective new tactic, why not hire a CEO of a middling $200 million company and have him hire the best coordinators to run the football aspect and the new CEO run the management aspect. Who needs a head coach?

Herman wasn't coming to LSU. What was said all along about him and texas was true. LSU was going to pay him more than he got from texas, he said no.

It's time for people to understand that LSU doesn't have a blank check or brinks truck to throw around. After jimbo and herman the pick of coaches was pretty slim. No, they were not lining up to coach her. Yes I know it hurts to read that, but it's true.
