On paper it makes a little sense I guess
An up and coming young coordinator from the Big 12 with roots in Texas who learned under The Pirate. Could do wonders with the local Houston talent that doesn't go to a P5 school.

I was glad you and Troy defeated Satoris and his goons.

He did have one of the best rear ends in all of screendome.
Btw. Do you happen to have any Larry Csonka merchandise you're willing to part with?

But I think they promote Orlando.

Don't think he makes the trip to Texas if Herman goes? Maybe they just demote Strong to DC and make Herman HC. Haha!

Would Fleck considers going to Houston instead of a small p5 program like purdue?

If those were his only two choices then he should definitely choose Houston over Purdue. In that scenario, 2 of the last 3 Houston coaches would have gone on to legit P5 jobs and then you also have Art Briles before them who obviously blew up at Baylor.

In that same time span, you have 2 out of the last 3 Purdue coaches who have been fired and have made that roster and job a barren wasteland.

It would be a layup to choose Houston in that scenario.

Applewhite.

They probably won't have to pay him much if they have a few DTF trainers on the staff.

They would look at a few guys, I'm sure. I could see Lane Kiffin, Briles, promoting their DC Todd Orlando, hell, they could check with Les Miles

If they go for Aranda I'd be pretty mad.

I could really see it being a perfect opportunity for Briles to get back into coaching. Hes not going to get very many offers. His familiarity with UH would probably get him a chance. Very similar to the Petrino situation.

I'm guessing he would take the UH HC job over being DC at Texas.

I think they could look for an older guy who might stick around longer instead of an up and comer this time

I don't think he'd get this offer.

if we work it out based on past hires....

Using last 4 because that's their period of success

- up and comer with no prior HC experience
- significant ties to Texas
- offensive coach
- P5 assistant

The only one that didn't completely meet these criteria ended up fired. Given that, I think the list probably looks like

direct ties to UH
-----------
Kendall Briles (OC Baylor) - father first brought success to UH
Jake Spavital (OC Cal) - GA at UH under Sumlin
Doug Meachem (co-OC TCU) - OC at UH under Levine (may be a bit long in tooth)
Major Applewhite (OC at UH)

Strong TX ties but not UH
------------
Lincoln Riley (OC at OU)
Sonny Cumbie (co-OC TCU)

While they haven't gone DC, the only DC I can even think of that is even close to the UH profile would be Aranda but I'm not sure if he has any Texas ties really. One year at LSU probably doesn't cut it.

I doubt this.

Sure it'd be great to hang onto a guy for a while. But at a place like UH, that generally means middling results. Not bad enough to fire but not good enough that bigger schools want your coach.

Seems to be settling and their fan base is far too fickle for that
