I don't think he's the right guy for Arkansas after a little deeper evaluation

Curious as to what you dislike about him now?

James Franklin is going no where. Vandy has and will continue to step up to support it's Football program. Vandy is following the Stanford blueprint which landed Harbaugh and kept him there until he left for the NFL. I don't see Franklin leaving for the NFL.

Vandy has a low ceiling no matter how good he recruits or coaches. They'll always be behind the SEC big dogs in money, facilities, recruiting, tradition, etc. They could try the Stanford model but Stanford's going against 2 big dogs not 7-8 like in the SEC.

Stanford has a better history and facilities than Vandy. Also, Stanford isnt surrounded by powerhouses the way Vandy is.

I've heard Franklin flirted with UNC last year to get going on better facilities, and they sort of gave their commitment to each other. Can anyone confirm that? Have they laid out plans/started working on anything?

They have broken ground on facility upgrades, including indoor facility. Rumor is (and it's a private school so nothing you hear about salaries can be verified) is that he is getting around $3 million/year now on a long term contract with a $22 million buyout for either side. In other words, if you want him, it will be very expensive.

Mostly that he's full of shite on his maxim that good coaches have to have hot wives. A few months back we dug up the Vandy media guide and only 1 coach had a remotely do-able wife. Franklin's isn't that bad but Kevin People's wife alone blows most staff's wives out of the water.

I also looked at his assistants, none of them had major college experience. They all came from and coached at small time north eastern universities, many of them not even D1 level.

We had a consensus that in the SEC you need someone that is comfortable with the big budgets, the big boosters, that isn't going to be awed by the bright lights and 90,000 seat stadiums. Arkansas is a place where the small town girls will beat down your door to get a chance at a cushy life. It's such easy pick'ins. Hell Jimmy Dykes was just announcing a few games a year for ESPN and he married a cheerleader right off the squad.

Petrino wasn't a man of strong enough resolve to be able to resist the blonde hordes on the hill. It happens to a lot of our athletes too, they get some notoriety and then the chunky sorority girls compete to get on their junk and fill their heads and they end up having down Sr. seasons.

Ok, but seriously the coaching staff thing, and the rumors around Kimbrow's recruiting and the recruiting handlers. I also don't think Franklin could politick like is needed if you're the coach of the Razorbacks. I like him, and I'd love for him to be our coach, but I think he needs some more seasoning, which ironically will tame his best attributes, but he could get in over his head real fast at Arkansas and I don't think we can risk that, Jeff Long sure can't or he's out the door too.

If anything this means he's more than ready for bigtime recruiting.
