Williams isn't a bad coach, but he coaches some bad players. No D. Sharper and Shanley has been crap the past two years not to mention that not one defensive lineman has done a damn thing besides W. Smith this year. The Front Office needs to make some moves on the defensive side of the ball at OLB, DE and SS.

His scheme often puts Scott Shanle in man coverage against slot receivers.

Think about that.

That's why alex smith drove 80 yards twice in the last 4 minutes?

"Williams is one of the best d coordinators in the league"

I wouldn't say he is one of the best, but still fairly good. I just don't like his scheme. When push comes to shove, we don't have a plan to just man up. Hell, with 4 minutes left in the game and up, we were still blitzing with safeties. And with under 2 minutes, who the hell knows what was going on.

Part of it is talent, but the schemes frustrate me. It is designed to create havoc and turnovers, which was minimal this year.

Doesn't Spags run a blitz heavy defense much like Williams? Plus he had a hell of D Line in NY, which we don't have.

No. He tries to get pressure with the front 7.

I'm starting to get on the Mike Nolan 3-4 Pain Train...

This is what worries me about Spags.. He had a lot of stars on the defensive line that we just plain don't have...

I'll say again what I said on the saints board.. JDR has had the jags in the top half of the league on defense for years, and I doubt many of you can name one starter he has on D.

They might just have the worst front seven in football, their safeties are glorified linebackers, and their nickel back is their best corner.

There is truth that the defense lacked talent. And that's not going to change based on where the money is going to need to go with our free agents.

But, Greg Williams has run his course in New Orleans. His blitzes, which he runs way too often, don't get nearly the pressure that they did 2-3 years ago. And, his willingness to put Harper against anyone and Jenkins (against elite TEs) in man to man coverage killed him often.

In fact, it was the offense who almost always built leads that allowed his defense to function at all. When the defense had to play against a team that was not one dimensional, it was a disaster.
