Not saying that this is bad, but some of our linemen aren’t built for the 3-4 style. Can’t think of too many OLB’s besides BJ and maybe Webb (who hasn’t played) that can make a strong transition.

Being that he is said to be a very good tactician, I’m sure he’d be able to transition that way in a manner that would make sense like Aranda did

LSU wasn’t “built” for a 3-4 when Aranda arrived either. Good coaches adjust until they have the personnel to run their scheme.

It’s more of a 3-3-5 for what that is worth.

We played a lot of 3-4 looks when our defense improved later in the year. Maason Smith and Roy are great 3-4 DEs and Guillory is a perfect 3-4 nose.

yall put way too much emphasis on 3-4/4-3 scheme BS

We pretty much ran a 3-3-5 the last 4 games this season

When LSU started rolling defensively they were running a 3 man front. We got the Dline for it. Guillory at nose, Roy at one end with Smith at the other. BJ at OLB with Jones at the other would be a pretty good front

We've had this debate on Miami boards. People see 3-4 and think "oh no, big10 slow defense!" 3-4/4-3 doesn't really matter. It's one hand on the ground difference. The more relevant piece of info would be is this a 2 gap defense or 1 gap defense. JMO.

Having 4 good linebackers is the bigger concern at this point. We only had 2 Lbs worth a shite this year and they are both gone next year.

3-4 is what's needed in modern SEC with the offenses goin around. Aranda was ahead of the curve, O was a dumbass, and Daronte got us back towards it. One of the reasons I wouldn't mind keeping Daronte but give him some established help.

Guys that Aranda recruited need to step up. Like Webb, etc

Seriously you do realize that that 3-4 is all we used to run under Aranda and only reason the defense improve last year was when Jones switched back to 3-4 , that’s exactly what LSU is built for

Coach O broke our brains into thinking you have to be one way or the other and it’s impossible to build a defense based on your talent, and not some loyalty to a certain scheme.

This isn’t true. The good DCs will adjust to what they have to work with just like a good chef will. Now they’ll likely recruit for their preferred style and mold it over the years, but you don’t need to put us in that same “this is what we do no matter how much it’s getting torched” category at this point anymore

White runs a 3-3-5 scheme so you only need 3 true LB’s and one hybrid safety/LB that lsu seems to always have in the roster.

If he plays a one-gap 3-4 then they're built for that, because one gap DL can play any one-gap front.

If he expects them to be two-gap DL, forget it.

Baws,

3 down linemen doesn't automatically mean 3-4 defense.

Signed,
-Not 3-4 defense

I think Davonte Lee would’ve been perfect for that hybrid position. Now if you get White, you make an all out push for Jacoby Matthews.

Same against Miss St. Except with 6 DBs often.
