I believe the man is genuine
I don't disagree with that, if you mean genuine as sincere.

he has information that I think is accurate
He has been accurate in the past - prior to Fall 2015, anyway. He was all in for Jimbo last year and has been Herman (right? DALSU was Herman and Random was Jimbo this year, or do I have that backwards?) - so, if he's wrong again, we don't have to listen to him anymore, IMHO.

Meeting took place on Wednesday. Miles was informed he'd be retained on Wednesday. Nobody believed it.
I've been here every year since '07, and I remember this episode vividly.
Just for kicks, I read the article you linked. This all went down on Saturday. Even the part you quoted Alleva happened after the A&M game.
This is straight from the article:
“Les and I have talked about this program. We are committed together to working to win to compete at the highest level,” Alleva said. “We’re going to go forward together and win championships here at LSU.”
The outcome of Saturday’s game had no impact on Miles’ future, Alleva said in a one-word answer to a reporter. ESPN reported Saturday night that the decision to retain Miles was made during the third quarter of the game against A&M. Alleva was not in his booth for much of the third quarter.
