There were multiple posters claiming it was a smokescreen for Spurrier. Like, people were claiming this right up until the introductory press conference. I can't be the only person who remembers this.

You are the only person who remembers this because it is made up. Spurrier was introduced as USC's coach on November 23rd 2004. Saban didn't leave until December 26th 2004. You dumb frick.

If I recall the only two interviewed candidates were RC Slocum and Les Miles. Possibly the worst coaching search in the history of anything.

Spurrier had already signed with USC, right. But there were multiple posters who were adamant he was coming to LSU. Like, even after Miles had been announced and right up until he walked up to the podium

I believe it was confirmed by his agent after the fact that he did indeed want to come here but the Saban waiting game forced his hand and he had to take the guaranteed job instead of sitting in limbo

Wrong.

quote:

Dellinger's piece indicates that six people were interviewed for the LSU job including Slocum: LSU assistants Bobby Williams and Jimbo Fisher; Houston Nutt, who had just finished his seventh season at Arkansas; former Texas A&M coach R.C. Slocum; Oklahoma State's Les Miles; and then Louisville coach Bobby Petrino.

Wrong. Skip recently gave an interview and opened up about the whole situation, which involved Del Rio and others at Motel 6 and stuff. Great interview

When "Bertman hired Miles" (not we) it was because he let Saban walk out of the door and get on that airplane. There was no smoke screen. It was a major FUp by an incompetent AD who thought baseball coaching talent was relevant to senior management. He spent his entire career managing kids and developed an imnipotent ego then ran into a younger man with an ego bigger than his and who held all of the cards. Bertman threw down two nines and Saban straight flushed him.

I was here when this happened, lurking, and nothing of this sort happened. There was a long thread where the board watched Ohio State destroy Oklahoma State in the Alamo Bowl (35-7) with everyone unimpressed by Miles. There was no smokescreen talk. Everyone was annoyed that Saban didn't leave earlier.
