It doesn't matter who their assistant are.

Obviously Saban and Meyer surround themselves with good coaches, but it's THEM that is the common thread.

Saban had been thru 5 OCs, he loses Smart, and a bunch of other position coaches. It doesn't matter

Meyer loses Mullen and Gonzalez at UF. Loses Chris Ash and Herman at OSU.

Point is, the head coach is what stirs the drink, period. We can have the best coach in America at every single position, if Ed sucks at HC, the team sucks.

No idea why we wouldn't want out HC to be our best coach

They put all of the people around them in positions to succeed. That means they hire the coaches, recruit the right talent, understand how to deploy and organize these resources effectively for maximum effect. They are part strategist, coach, human resource manager, project manager, etc.

There is a reason Great coaches have coaching trees.

Coach O is none of these things.

I hear it's their dialect and fighting skills, plus if they drink bourbon and make a mean jambalaya that's a plus

they also have an overall plan and everything is geared towards that plan

what is Orgeron's plan? "hire the best coordinator and then when they leave, change everything for the next guy who is the best coordinator"? i know you've touched on this but i'm just phrasing it a different way

Nope, this is precisely his plan, a revolving door of coordinators.

So by your theory, it was Miles, not Pelini, Chavis or Aranda who made our defenses great.

Let's hire Miles back.

Aranda and Kiffin would be here 3 yrs tops. There is no long term plan for O other than remain at 3.5 per year for a long as time and pray he hires the absolute best coordinators.

And yet maintain control and authority. It's an art that Saban has nearly perfected!

By all accounts, he does recruit extremely well.

I'd side with you on the rest if I had to guess but in reality, we don't actually know the answer to that one.
