What is the board's opinion of Jeff Ulbrich as special teams/OLBcoach/recruiter?

Ulbrich joined the Falcons after spending three seasons at UCLA. He was promoted to defensive coordinator in 2014 after serving as the assistant head coach, linebackers coach, and special teams coordinator during his first two years with the Bruins. Last season, Ulbrich’s defensive unit was ranked third in the Pac-12 in total defense. Under his guidance, LB Eric Kendricks won the Butkus Award and the Lott IMPACT Trophy after topping the nation in solo tackles per game and finishing sixth in the country in total tackles. Kendricks also finished his career as UCLA’s all-time tackles leader, breaking LB Jerry Robinson’s record set between 1975 and 1978. Seven of Ulbrich’s defenders earned first or second-team all-conference honors and the Bruins held four opponents to less than 80 yards rushing during the 2014 campaign.

Ulbrich spent two seasons as a special teams assistant with the Seattle Seahawks (2010-11) before arriving in Westwood. Ulbrich was selected by the San Francisco 49ers in the third round (86th overall) of the 2000 NFL Draft out of the University of Hawaii. He earned a starting role with the 49ers in 2001 and spent 10 seasons with the club before retiring in 2009.

In addition to Kendricks, he also coached Anthony Barr who led the nation in sacks in 2012.

Was a decent special teams coordinator

Special teams efficiency:
2012: 56th
2013: 32nd

His recruiting resume is impressive as well. He got Kenny Young out of John Curtis to commit to UCLA a few years back.

He's currently coaching LBs for the Falcons turning Deon Jones into a shoe-in for the all-rookie team.

Would LSU not be a demotion?

He was the DC at UCLA when he got into a sideline tirade with Jim Mora before moving on to Atl. I doubt he'd come back to college as a positional coach unless LSU threw a ton of money at him.

Fine with me though. LSU needs someone who can recruit and not frick up the special teams which is really not all that difficult to coach. BDP (or this guy) would have little to no coaching as to the actual kicking. The rest of it is just getting guys in position and making sure they understand their assignments. Only Les could find a way to "out-think" conventional wisdom and try to corner-kick, thus leading to kicking the ball out of bounds.

He wouldn't stay long if a positional/ST coach.

I don't know that LSU needs recruiters as much as they need coaches.
