I'm guessing he wants to be a head coach again and I don't think he gets a NFL head coaching job anytime soon, so why not be the OC for a top notch program to learn how to recruit, etc. And if he does great with all the talent UF has, he can probably get a head coaching gig in the next three years or so.

Because he no longer had a job in KC.

Makes no sense the chiefs were in the cellar last year and now in one year they are playoff contenders.

Read that he was being forced out because of chemistry issues within the KC staff. No link right now

Weis wanted to work with his son. His son was on the Texas staff and followed Muschamp to Florida.

Recruiting was never Weis' problem. Notre Dame had elite talent on offense, especially WR and TE. His downfall was completely ignoring the defensive side of the ball and making bad DC hires.

Muschamp was a huge recruiter for UT. And it's more than just the coach, it's the guys who film practice, disect game film, organize recruiting visits, deal with boosters, see how the SEC does things opposed to an independent program.

He went into ND blind. It's not bad to watch how Florida runs a program and take that knowledge to another program.

4 reasons:

reasons why he went back to the college game:

1. less stressful

2. his daughter (apparently his daughter has autism and it's tough on his family obviously and a chance to live in Fla. and relax and not spend as much time with football is important.

3. He wants to be a college HC again. (pure speculation on my part.)

4. opportunity to work with his son.

His son is something like 16 years old. Unless he is some kind of freak doogie howser coaching prodigy then I do not think this is the case.

He will be the head coach of the offense with little to no interference. Good move for all parties involved.

Ok so his son is 17 years old and is a student coach at his high school. That's a long way from being a coach at the University of Texas and coming with WM to Florida.

I guess that could be true.He is probably starting college soon and with dad's connections I am sure he could work his way into a student job in the football department. Organizing recruiting film/boards, assisting GA's with scout team organization.

I just don't think it's a reason for big Charlie to go to Florida. I think it's more the fact that he will be able to do his offensive thing at a high profile place without head coach pressures.

His son will just be some kind of student assistant or something.

quote:

Charlie Weis' decision to take a job with the Florida Gators is largely due to the fact that he wants to work with his son, who will matriculate to UF.

Weis' son was set to work in the football office at the University of Texas under Will Muschamp, but when Muschamp recently took the Florida head coaching job, Charlie Jr. then followed him to Gainesville. Weis Sr. helped to catapult the Chiefs to ninth in total offense after the team ranked 25th in 2009. While Weis' successor in Kansas City has yet to be determined, a potential suitor whose name has surfaced is former Broncos head coach Josh McDaniels, who has ties to GM Scott Pioli from their days together in New England.
