uhhhhh duh
Kirby Smart is probably the next guy up if Herman declines and Larry Fedora's name has been mentioned a bunch the past couple days.

The best way to not get a coach is for a report to go out that an agreement is in place before the contract is signed.
When Arkansas hired Bielema I think 5 or 6 names had been connected to the job as imminent hires. Then we got Bert and nobody knew about it.
There really are no sources in these matters. The important people know not to talk.

Damn, even in a thread about a Houston coach possibly going to South Carolina it's ate up with LSU fans.

Yeah and there are a billion openings...and Herman is at the top of the list for nearly all of them. Herman and Fuente and Smart can wait and choose.
Herman has no reason to sign with anyone right now. He can leverage them all into a great contract for one. Those guys at the top of the list have all the power right now.

You're hoping that Herman will still be available once y'all decide to get off the pot with Miles.
1.) I don't think y'all will end up firing Miles.
2.) I don't think Herman will be y'all's top choice and he won't wait around for you to filter to him when we give him the chance to sign or walk.

Even if LSU never becomes an option, there are too many Power 5 openings to move this fast. Playing USCe, USCw, Mizzou, Miami, VA Tech, Illinois, and Maryland against each other just ups the asking price. The top 6 schools on that list have $$ to spend on a hire.

Nope, with the exception of So Cal, we're a better job than those other jobs for reasons already outlined in other threads. A new benefit not outlined in those other threads is that our BOT just approved the new $50M Football Operations and Recruiting Building.

Is this official yet?
Seems odd he'd commit so early. I mean, their season at Houston isn't even close to over. Plus a lot of other jobs open. I think SCAR is a better job opening than anyone but probably USC, LSU, and Texas if it comes open.
And maybe Maryland. That's a sneaky decent job.

I'm not saying that anyone at the bottoms of that list is equal. However, they have money, and they can make you guys pay more by bidding up the price.
Say what you will, but Mizzou isn't light years behind your program, and you may have more money and be better off than USCw currently, but you can't match their history or location. Pete Carroll showed what is possible for the right guy there.

just think back to when Miles was hired and all the info about LSU having their guy and then we hired Miles.
That is how things work.
Coaches and agents are just like all of us when we change jobs. We evaluate, wait as long as possible and if you already have a great job - you are in no hurry to jump ship- there is always next year and it will produce equally great openings.

This leak may have torpedoed the whole thing.
I don't think a tentative deal was in place, but he was probably at least going to visit Columbia to look around and talk with Ray. However, that may not even happen now.

TH is at the top of every list of coaches- why would SC rank so high on his list?
Posted on 11/25/15 at 7:53 am to GetCocky11
Heard he was still going to come to interview for the job but is pissed to high heaven about the leaks to the media.
Apparently this same kind of thing happened during his whole UH hiring process, he had the same kind of reaction, but still took the job.
Of course that was on a much smaller stage compared to the attention this potential hire has gotten.
I guess we'll see soon enough.

Hard to say why coaches choose to go where they go.
SC has a lot of positive things going for it.
