re: UF fans I am starting to believe it's going to be McElwain

First of all, Mac's buyout isn't as iron clad as you might think. When he goes to a new team, that team will not pay $7.5M to get him out of his contract. Second, if he goes to UF it will be for $3M or higher. I'd bet on that.
Why Jim McElwain’s $7.5M contract buyout is so critical in talks about his future
Seems pretty straight-forward to me:
quote:
d. Termination by McElwain. At all times during the Term, McElwain shall have the right to terminate this Agreement, without cause, at any time upon prior written notice to the University, except that McElwain shall not, without good cause (such as would be cause for termination for breach by the University), give his notice of termination that is to take effect between July 1 and the last regular season game of the then-current CSU football season. If such notice is given during the foregoing time frame, the termination effective date shall be determined at the sole discretion of the Director, but not event later than the final game (to include any post-season bowl game) of that season.
In the event that McElwain so terminates this Agreement during the Term, because the Parties agree that the harm to the University cannot otherwise be reasonably calculated, McElwain shall pay to the University as liquidated damages, the following amounts (referred to as “Liquidated Damages”)
(i) If such termination occurs on or before December 31, 2018, the Liquidated Damages shall be the greater of: (1) $7,500,000; or (2) an amount equal to McElwain’s total remaining Base Salary (as set forth in Section 4.a. herein and as of the date of termination) for all years and months remaining from the termination date until the Contract Ending Date (as defined in Section 1 herein); or
(ii) If such termination occurs after December 31, 2018, the Liquidated Damages shall be an amount equal to McElwain’s total remaining Base Salary (as set forth in Section 4.a. herein and as of the date of termination) for all years and months remaining from the termination date until the Contract Ending Date (as defined in Section 1 herein);
The article also contains this little tidbit:
quote:
If Florida (i.e., Florida boosters) pays Will Muschamp $6.3 million to go away and then the minimal $7.5 million buyout to get McElwain out of his CSU deal, even my University of Colorado math can figure out that that’s $13.8 million … before McElwain coaches a game.
Like with Pelini, it's such a large amount to get McElwain when there are other coaches to speak to before turning to this quite expensive option.

Dont get the McElwain to UF talk. He is a good coach but I think Florida needs more of a fun and gun type of offense.

I've read his entire contract. Find it online somewhere. Look at page ten. The president of the university is given discretion to negotiate down some or all of the buyout in talks with other schools.
He may very well leave this season, but the $7.5m will not be paid in full. Look for it to be $4m at most.

I personally think McElwain could potentially be a good hire. Not flashy, but as a Georgia fan I'd rather the frick up.

Bull Gators don't know shite. People that refer to them like they actually know something are clueless. You get the Bull Gator tag for donating 15k, where you become part of a massive peanut gallery and your voice isn't heard. Nor do they get any real info on coaching stuff. If your guy was a Legacy Director, then we could start talking, but I highly doubt that to be the case.
The coach is going to come from this group imo...
Stoops
Rich Rod
McElwain
Mora Jr.

Rich Rod would be interesting.

Rich Rod would be a massive upgrade from McElwain. There's really no way around it McElwain would be a massive, massive gamble for Foley: 3 years of decent but by no means overwhelming success at CSU, conservative Bama OC (though I hear he's pretty much a shotgun spread guy now), pro style coordinator (massive risk, as it's an offense which has little sustained success outside of a handful of schools with significant talent advantages vis a vis their competitors).
All and all, McElwain seems more Dooley or Hoke than say Spurrier or Meyer.
Unless McElwain is nothing like he was in Tuscaloosa, he's not going to go over well in Gainesville, the fans are tired of wannabe Bama bullshite, Florida isn't supposed to be a ground and pound program and trying to do it again right after Muschamp is a massive mistake.

Finebaum just called him an offensive genius. He ran the offense at Bama that Saban wanted him to. Since going to CSU he's thrown the ball more.

It'd be interesting to see Coach Mac at a big time job. I'd like it. Not sure yet if he's a big time P5 coach, but I hope he is.
You never really know until they get the opportunity. You can't get a much better sandbox than Florida, with all of that talent available.
