I thought he did a pretty good job of burning that bridge. UCONN must be desperate.

It's UCONN football, they can't afford to hold grudges.

They were moderately successful under Edsall the first time, so this move would make sense.

Dumb when Joe Moorehead and Rob Ambrose and Greg Schiano are available.

How about Mario Cristobal (was Northeast recruiter at Rutgers for several seasons, must still have connections).

Randy Edsall is a hard arse. I knew a guy in high school who decommitted from UConn because he said the football players weren't allowed to have any fun. Crazy curfew rules and such. And this guy wasn't your usual idiot. He is now a successful businessman.

From what I heard, I have a hard time believing that Edsall jives well with the modern millennial football player.

Edsall would be an awful hire at this point in time. They really need to hire an offensive minded coach to overcome their deficiencies.

TBH, I suspect Schiano is looking for a P5 job in a state where he can recruit. He's getting paid well to be the OSU DC, and he probably won't leave unless he can win big at his next HC opportunity.

He's already done the "Rutgers" thing -- he'll look for something stable to take, IMO.

I think Cristobal will be the #1 target for Rutgers after the Chris Ash experiment ends. For the record, I absolutely expect the Ash experiment to end after next season unless the team improves dramatically.

Ash was definitely a head scratching hire. I can't see that one ending well at all.

Rutgers, in its infinite wisdom, hired the assistant AD from Seton Hall, a program that did not have a football program.

It is said that Ash was hired because he did well in his interview, but I suspect it was more about his very moderate salary demands. There were a few "real" coaches available that Rutgers could have hired for ~$2M per season.

Another embarrassing season should be enough to force the school to pay for a real coach, IMO, lest they risk getting tossed out of the B10.

Do they have the same AD who hired Pasqualoni and Diaco? If so, terrible hires are par for the course.

Smart move. Without a Power 5 invite their football program is basically dead, and no nearby Power 5 conference will consider them.

Randy will turn off the lights, then UCONN can shut down their program for good and move to the new Big East for basketball.
