All of this "Would he take this job?" type talk kind of has me wondering about some of your opinions on this subject. If you take all things into consideration, (fan base, facilities, tradition, location, earning potential, recruiting base, admission standards, conference affiliation, pressure to win, boosters) what are the top 10 coaching jobs in America today? Curious to know what some of you think and why.

LSU has to be top five right now. ND what a mess. Bama was a mess in 06. OU was a mess when Stoops got there. LSU situation is ripe for winning now

Give me 10 in order and tell me why they rank that way. Anyone can just list a bunch of schools. Is LSU in the top five?

I ranked them for ease of recruiting and ability for success, quickly, if you took over the program.
IMO, that's the best way to rank them. The other tradition, and fan stuff is too subjective. Obviously this palys into a coaches mind from where he's from and played. Leave that stuff out when figuring it out.

You have Florida, Texas and USC in the first tier. Then you have a bunch of teams like LSU, Alabama, Georgia, Oklahoma, Ohio State, etc. that could all be in any order depending on the current state of the program.

I agree. Many coaches have left alma maters for perceived better jobs--Bo Schembechler, Miami (OH); Bill Curry, GT to Bama. Some have refused or not been interested in returning to alma maters--Miles and Vince Dooley. I am sure there is a long list of both.

Coaching at one's alma mater does not always work out--Jerry Stovall, Frank Solich, Ralph Friedgen.

Why would anyone want the ND job? Their glory days are over. They don't have the athletes and the weather there is terrible. It is hard to recruit top athletes because of the academic standards and the town is not very large. It is a middle of the road school in Div 1 now.

Top 10 varies in order but the members of that group are fairly consistent. In no certain order the top 10 are as follows:

Florida
Bama
LSU
USC
Texas
Oklahoma
Ohio State
Michigan

The above are clear. Gets fuzzy after that w/ several having a claim. Those in consideration would include.

Georgia
Tennessee
Nebraska
Miami
Florida State
Oregon
Virginia Tech

Programs that could become elite w/ right coach:

Texas AM
Arizona, on the uptick
Notre Dame
Missouri
Auburn

LSU is easily ahead of Bama because of in-state talent and lack of a true in-state competitor.

because theres a lot of great history there? not to mention they seem to have a huge following and the media loves them...if you could get that program back to elite status you'd be like a fricking american hero or some shite

just because they suck right now doesn't mean it wouldn't be a good job

there's just too damn many good college jobs to limit it to 10.

each of these universities above have >100,000 people on campus during home games, but every list should definitely include at least one team from Florida (Florida, Miami, and FSU) and Oklahoma.

Oklahoma is too rich in tradition and no place in the USA has more talent than Florida.

That said, Notre Dame is still the highest profile college coaching job on the planet (period)
